Dear Lane Bryant,

Please stop. Just. Stop. My size system does not need to be reinvented. I do not need a scale of 1-8 with a matching color system. I don't even know what a '3 Red' IS. Now, I understand that when numbers get big, people get scared. Lord forbid someone wear a pair of pants in a size that has a number two in front of it. But really? A whole new sizing system?

How about we look at it from your point of view. Let's assume that every woman in the world is mortally afraid of the number inside her clothing (which seems to be what you're going on, so I'm rolling with it). Odds are that this is because she thinks she is fat and hideous, and putting on a pair of pants in a size 22 affirms this. So instead what you've chosen to do is force all these women into having to re-learn what their sizing is based on your system. I.E.; grabbing several pairs of pants, going into a poorly lit dressing room and squeezing into a few while going WHY AM I TOO FAT FOR THESE FML /WRIST before finding the right pair.

Women's clothing is ridiculous enough when it comes to sizing. Do kindly get out.

Regards,
Natalie

I really wish women's sizes came in the actual MEASUREMENTS like menswear does. It'd make everybody's lives way fucking easier.

me too. i recently found out that a current size 12 is actually a size 16 or so. it was really depressing to learn that, instead of dropping 2 sizes in a few weeks, i'm the same size i was 6 months ago. :(

Well you did actually drop sizes as a the vanity sizing affected larger sizes too(ie the 16 used to be 18) But yes, can we get some measurements on clothes? or at least a standard sizing chart so if you're a 10 in one company's clothing, you'll be a 10 and all companies.

I think vanity sizing started a while back. I remember first hearing about it late 1990's early 2000's Question is how well do the old size 16 pants fit, are they looser and baggier?

they fit exactly the same as the size 12s i just bought a couple of weeks ago... mainly i was all stoked because i was finally down to a size 12, only to realize that it's not that i've gotten smaller, size 12s have just gotten bigger.

YES. THIS. FUCKING THIS. Auuugh. I just wanna go in and snag a pair of pants that have my number on it and know they fit. And not go "WELL HMM. IN THIS BRAND I WEAR THIS SIZE, AND THIS BRAND IS MADE BY THE SAME COMPANY BUT I HEAR THEY SIZE SMALL"

Seriously, Old Navy is the worst about this crap. IN IN THE SAME STORE, I will wear two completely different sizes of pants. What. the. fuck.

I - I can't even.

Man, only in America. You have no idea how much we poke fun at the sizing systems there. You guys have this thing about making everything smaller than it actually is! Granted it makes us feel good when we say things in your sizes haha. BUT STILL.

Why lie to yourself? IF YOU THINK YOU'RE FAT, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Don't sugarcoat the whole deal, you're not helping anyone. SRSLY.

Though I have to say this post is win. Props to you bb, props to you. /o/ <3

i would think that would be a GOOD thing, you know? like when you get to the point where you're going "OMG I'M A SIZE 28 /WRIST" maybe you'll, idk, try to lose some weight? putting a paper bag over your head and going "NO NO I'M NOT A 28 I'M A SIZE 3 PUCE!" doesn't help anyone. orz

I guess I just-- don't see the problem with being okay with the size you are? I mean, it's your body. So long as you're healthy, I don't get why the rest of it should matter. The stigma that OMG A 28 is hideous and you should slit your wrists makes no sense to me.

if you're fine with your size, that's great, i'm just saying the people who ARE horrified by being a larger size should use that as motivation to lose weight, not stick their head in the sand and pretend they're skinny.

Wow, that just sounds like it's making things way more complicated than they ever have to be. :(
